Nothing new to report. Have been clearing out a single space to put the typewriters in, uniting my collection for the first time. This good-sized walk-in closet has two large shelves that might hold twenty typewriters on each. This isn't enough space, of course, so there will be some stacked on top of each other, and some put in sideways, and some on the floor. And there is room for a smaller table or shelf to go against the wall between the two larger shelves as well. I'll make them fit. I missed the deadline to get all my things out of storage so I have another month to do it now. So I'll bring them in over the course of the next few weeks and present the final results when they happen.

Looks like a great place to store typewriters. I do not know if there is a place were there ever is enough space. After all isn't empty space an open invitation to fill it with more typewriters?
ReplyDeleteSeems like it. I know that it will be pretty full by this time next week. If it's not *completely* full, then it is of course my personal responsibility to fill any empty space.
DeleteI just got some cheap but strong plastic shelving for my basement. It's going to hold tons (literally) of writing metal. My only concern is the damp down there. If I'm a good boy I'll put the machines, at least the unusual ones, into vacuum-sealed bags with some silica gel.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I'd be concerned, particularly with a large collection of more valuable machines. Even the scarcest typewriter I own is pretty quickly replaceable, and the East Texas climate is temperate for the most part. I have trouble keeping track of my own typewriters...I can't imagine how you big-time collectors do it.
